2007 MEMBERSHIP DUES
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE RESOLUTION 37
WHEREAS, It is the opinion of the National Executive Committee of The American Legion that a per capita dues increase is necessary in 2007in order to ensure solvency for the National Organization, and, in the absence of a per capita dues increase, the National Organization will be forced to curtail drastically some of its traditional and long-standing programs now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, By the National Executive Committee of The American Legion in regular meeting assembled in Indianapolis, Indiana, May 10-11, 2006, That the National Executive Committee hereby recommends to the 2006 National Convention that the National per capita dues for the calendar year 2007 be fixed in the amount of $13.50, provided that any 2007 dues paid at the old rate of $9.00 shall be accepted if remitted by the Departments to the National Organization by close of business January 10, 2007, which is the mid-winter 80% target date.
This resolution was approved at the National Convention held at Salt Lake City last week.
THEREFORE, Our post is making the following changes in Post dues for the 2007 membership year. Since it take as much as a month, sometimes longer, from the time we send dues to The Department of Mexico until the dues are received at the National Headquarters, we are increasing the Post dues to US$ 35.00 as of the day after Veterans Day, 2006 (November 11, 2006). From now until Veterans Day the yearly dues are US$ 25.00. Please pay your dues as promptly as possible in order not to pay this increase. Make checks (in dollars or quetzals) payable to The American Legion.
Members of Post No. 1 living outside of Guatemala can send their dues check to the following address:

Is there any doubt that advocating for a strong national defense, championing veterans benefits, and administering programs such as American Legion Baseball, Boys Nation and the American Legacy Scholarship fund are not worth a few more dollars per year. Would The American Legion be worth belonging to if it ignored the pleas for help during national emergencies such as Hurricane Katrina or if it sat idly by as Boy Scouts of America faces lawsuit after lawsuit filed by groups such as the ACLU.
FLAG AMENDMENT
By the narrowest of margins, the Senate failed to pass S.J. Resolution 12, the flag amendment. But while Old Glory’s supporters may have lost the battle, they are
committed to winning the war. The amendment received 66 votes of support during the June 27 vote – just one vote short of what it needed to be sent back to the states
for ratification. We’ll be back next year.
