NEXT MEETING
The next meeting of The Romeo J. Routhier Post No. 1, The American Legion will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at 1230 hours at The Montano Steak House.

VETERANS DAY 2006
Post No. 1 will celebrate Veterans Day on Saturday, November 11, 2006 with a no host lunch for all members, their wives and families at The Montano Steak House (3a Ave. and 12a Calle, Zona 10) at 1300 hours. Cost of the lunch will be for each persons individual account. There will be a cash bar with drinks at a modest price. Please confirm attendance so that I can advise the restaurant on how many people to expect.

MARCO ANTONIO FOUNDATION FERIA – BAZAR
The Marco Antonio Foundation will hold a Feria and Bazar on Saturday, October 28, 2006 from 0900 hours to 1700 hours at the Parque de Vista Hermosa, 22a Avenida, between 3a and 4a Calle, Zona 15 (behind Metro 15), Vista Hermosa 1. There will be opportunities to purchase artifacts, jewelry, wood products, and other handicraft products. There will be activities for children, raffles, and food and drinks. Post Commander Carl West is encouraging all members of the post to support this fine organization.

MARINE CORPS BIRTHDAY
The Marine Corps Security Guard Detachment of the American Embassy will hold its annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball on November 4, 2006 at The Guatemala Marriott Hotel. The event will commence at 1800 hours. The cost is $50.00 per person (or Q380.00). This will include open bar and dinner. For further information, contact the MSG office at the Embassy at 2331-2354.

2007 MEMBERSHIP DUES
Do not forget. From now until Veterans Day the 2007 American Legion membership dues are $25.00. After Veterans Day the dues will be $35.00 for renewal and $30.00 for new members.

EMBLEM SALES
We still have many items for sale from American Legion Emblem Sales such as lapel pins, hat emblems, bumper stickers, and blazer emblems and emblem holders.

COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE
Bill Brandt has been appointed head of the newly formed Community Service Committee, which will co-ordinate all projects concerning Community Service.

From time to time Bill may ask individual Legionnaires for help with certain projects.
Commander West has asked that we all try to co-operate with Bill when asked.

MOUNT SOLIDAD VETERANS MEMORIAL
President Bush has recently signed into law legislation protecting the Mount Solidad Veterans Memorial in San Diego, California. In May, a federal judge ordered the removal of the cross, which is part of the memorial display on city property. San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders asked Bush to exercise his authority to transfer the memorial to federal custody.
