FLAG AMENDMENT
For several years, The American Legion has supported passage of the Flag Amendment, which simply states that “The congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of The United States”. This amendment has always passed in The House of Representatives but has never passed in the Senate. In June, 2006, the Flag Amendment will be brought up for vote in the Senate as S.J. Res. 12. It needs 67 favorable votes for passage.
It is important to secure Senate co-sponsors to assure the measure has the supermajority needed to pass. If your senators are co-sponsors, thank them for their support. If not, urge them to become official co-sponsors of S.J. Res. 12. Telephone numbers for U.S. senators can be obtained by calling the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
Members of the Senate are also accessible via the internet. Type their names into a search engine and follow the links to their e-mail addresses.
If you need to know the names of your senators, call Adjutant Skinner.
